To take
advantage of the dramatic view over trees
and down a long slope to the water, we
designed a long, one room deep, three-story
structure sitting under a shallow-pitched
metal roof. We inserted several “functional
follies”: a bridge to the front door, an
upper level lying screened porch, and a
raftered, tree-house-like deck, replete with
fireplace, peering through branches to the
water.
The main level houses daytime / public
spaces, and a secluded master bedroom suite.
Guest bedrooms comprise the full length of
the upper level, while the daylight basement
houses multipurpose and storage spaces.
Behind these rooms with a view, a more
mundane tower of support spaces and stairs
acts as a mooring, keeping this long red
yacht from drifting away.
