Shortly after
acquiring a 90-year old lakeside log cottage,
the owner watched as her childhood dream,
struck by lightning, burned to the ground. We
were commissioned not to replicate but to
replace the cottage but with a year-round home
providing an equivalent amount of peace,
quiet, and future memories.
To comply with land use regulations, we
minimized volume and maximized usable
space by employing very steep gables which
contrast with shallow-pitched perimeter roofs
covering open and screened porches.
This little house carries a big emotional
burden; it is straightforward but very
particular, and already memorable.
